Bio:

Ploi holds a BA in Communication Studies from the University of San Diego and an MFA in Fiction from San Francisco State University where she has taught creative writing as a lecturer. She's also taught at Education Unlimited, and at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts as an artist-in-residence, and as their 2019 - 2020 Assistant Director of Creative Writing.

She has participated in selection committees for the Aspen Words Prize, the Newfound Prose prize, at various artist residencies, and on hiring committees at the high school and university level. She’s also curated for Kearny Street Workshop’s annual Asian/Asian American arts festival, the San Francisco Unified Districts Arts Festival as their 
Literary Arts curator. She currently sits on the board for khōréō, a quarterly magazine for speculative fiction, and is Kundiman's Northern California Co-Chair.

She is a member of the Association of Writers & Writing Programs, Intersection for the Arts, Association of Asian American Studies, and an Associate Member of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America.

Ploi mentors graduate students in the HKU MFA Program on their full-length manuscripts over a fiscal school year, and is the reason for their many sleepless nights.

Ploi teaches 10-week and 6-week courses about speculative fiction, dialogue & point of view, and how to find your voice. Her students have gone on to publish in literary journals she could only dream of being published in and she's proud.

Ploi leads the 5-week Bootcamps, and 10-week Foundations of Creative Nonfiction courses for writers and provides a constructive and safe environment to workshop each other's true stories. She often holds back a few tears from listening to all of the truths shared in her classes.
