Ploi Pirapokin was born in Thailand and raised in Hong Kong. Her work is featured and forthcoming in Tor.com, Apogee Journal, the Bellingham Review, Fiction International, Cosmonauts Avenue and more.
She uses speculative fiction as a way to explore postcolonial poetics, American imperialism in Asia, and Pan-Asianism. She is working on a collection of short stories and a memoir.
Ploi Pirapokin has received grants and fellowships from the San Francisco Arts Commission, the Creative Capacity Fund, the Headlands Center for the Arts, the Ragdale Foundation, Kundiman and others.
She has attended the Fine Arts Work Center Summer Workshops, Writing by Writers Tomales Bay Workshop, and the Community of Writer's at Squaw Valley on scholarships.
